In October the support society for oncology patients “Dzivibas koks” in collaboration with Fazer Geisha organized the Pink Ribbon campaign and during Breast Health Month wants to draw public attention to problems of breast cancer patients and find resources for psychological rehabilitation.
“Taking into account the critical situation when the incidence of breast screening in Latvia increases, but state funded Breast Cancer Early Detection Program is not efficient, there should be done significant and informative work so that women start to evaluate the value of health. Definitely there isn’t enough with implementation of breast screening program – we should do our best so this program will work. Therefore “Dzivibas koks” during the Breast Health Month invited women to take care of own health and also take active part in state funded breast screening program,” says Gunita Berķe, chairperson of “Dzivibas koks”. Breast screening program is related to women at the age group of 50-56 years and who had received HPC invitation letter. From January 2009 till July 2011, 360 765 women have received an invitation letter and only 83 143 women have done the health exams (www.vnc.gov.lv).
During the campaign “Let’s be healthy!” mobile mammograph will be available on 26 October, from 11:00 to 16:00 near supermarket Alfa and Spice, and we invite women who have received Health Payment Centre (HPC) invitation letter to participate in state funded breast screening program where the health check will be available. Please apply for this campaign by phone +371 67142840 or +371 2876655. Take along an invitation letter and passport. Let’s be healthy!
Taking into account the critical situation of Latvia, when each year the incidence of cancer increases and state funded breast cancer screening program is used only by a quarter of female cancer patients, the support society for oncology patients “Dzivibas koks” organizes campaign “Let’s be healthy!” The first campaign activity will take place near the Saeima on October 19, from 11:00 to 14:00, and during this activity we invite women of the Saeima and other active women to inspire all Latvian women with own experience to take care of health and make breast cancer screening tests. The speaker of the Saeima, Solvita Aboltiņa also will participate in campaign (at 11:00) and will invite all Latvian women to be responsible to oneself and health, and use government-funded breast screening program.
